My this I believe essay was one of the most impactful papers I have written so far this year. In the FYE course we read a book called This I Believe by Jay Alison. The book tells multiple stories of what individuals believe and why. We learned a lot about people’s morals based on some serious or not so serious life events. The story that impacted me the most was one where the author encouraged readers to “always thank the pizza dude.” This story was meant to tell readers to step back and realize how good they have it because not everyone has it that good. We read many stories all based on things like love, friendship, relationships, and more. So after reading excerpts from the book, we wrote our own This I Believe essay. I based my belief around one of my most life changing moments I have ever had. I shared a personal story about what money really means to me and why. Thinking back to how I went from the person I was then to the person I am today was interesting because I don’t often think about who I was. I grew up in a rich town where even being upper-middle class isn’t high enough on the social ladder. You needed money and a lot of it to spend frivolously. Because of this system when I moved to the other side of Windham, I lost all my friends. But, I learned that I didn’t care where I was on that ladder as long as I had good friends to support me.
