Significant Writing Project

For my significant writing project I chose the second essay I wrote on Scientific Discourse. In this paper I work with three articles to compare and contrast what it means to understand science discourse. I take ideas from James Paul Gee, Christina Haas, IMRAD format, and Nair and Nair and their contributions to understanding the science discourse. I chose this project because I feel I do my best making connections and putting a lot of my own words into my writing. I felt this was my strongest essay because I did a lot of revisions to improve it.

Abstract

Scientific text can be very tough to read and understand. Most people don’t take the time to read text thoroughly and understand the information on a deeper level. If people spent more time understanding things like the IMRAD format and Gee’s building blocks then understanding text could become easier. People should focus on reading closely versus autonomously to really understand points the authors making.
